A new COTY! (Color of the Year)

Pantone COTY

If you missed the announcement, the new Color of the Year from Pantone is… PANTONE 18-3224 Radiant Orchid!

“Radiant Orchid reaches across the color wheel to intrigue the eye and spark the imagination,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.”

You can check out the blog post on the Pantone site for more, or peruse the press release.

Those Pantone people really take color seriously. Some might say they take color too seriously, but hey, color is their business, so I’ll forgive them. Don’t forget to RSVP that “invitation to innovation”!

So thrilled by the news of Radiant Orchid being named color of the year! It really has done a lot to deserve this honor. Luminescent Tangerine was just out for attention at every opportunity, and Livid Purple was just so gauche. Finally, we have a Color of the Year that really deserves it!

Thanks for the update, Pete. We appreciate all you do to ferret out the REAL news of the day for us!

I know your world of words is just black and white, but those designers you work with happen to love color!
