They always say that a creative and functional office can set the tone for a company as such an environment can leave employees more inspired and productive. We at z2 agree, which is why we shared our designs with the Milwaukee Business Journal for their new series, “Milwaukee’s Coolest Offices.”

So, jump in and enjoy a brief tour of our favorite spots of the place we have called home since October 2013.

The Café

z2 Cafe

Some days we just need to get out of our offices for a bit of inspiration. We head to the communal area, the café, for a change of scenery. The area is filled with couches, tables and a fireplace, all of which provide for ample meeting space or a quaint working space. And of course we had to add the Martini Bar so we could enjoy a z2 favorite – Cosmo Fridays. We like to unwind from a stressful week by shutting down at 4 p.m. on Friday afternoons and indulging in some of our favorite snacks and drinks.

z2 Fitness

Too many deadlines to meet in too little time? No problem. We sweat out the stress in our fitness studio. The 3,500-square-foot fitness studio has a treadmill, elliptical and circuit training equipment, and group classes are also available throughout the week to add a bit of variety.

The Kitchen

z2 Kitchen

We can’t function without food so we have a full-service kitchen available for clients and employees. It is conveniently located next to the photo studio with a window so that we can provide craft services to clients if necessary. For random parties and national holidays (i.e. National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day) we use the kitchen to bake cookies and egg bakes, burn some bacon, etc.

The Studios

Two added conveniences for our clients and us are our photo and recording studios. With the ability to record radio pieces and voice-overs, or shoot photos and videos on site, z2 has a definite one-up. Having access to these spaces allows us to develop killer content for clients or whip something up for our own social media purposes. It’s kind of like having our very own photo booth, but better.

On Wednesday, Sept. 10, we joined our client, the InterContinental Milwaukee, in celebrating the fifth anniversary of their Pink Rooms – two special guest rooms designed to build awareness, raise funds, offer support and foster hope for those fighting breast cancer.

For every room booked, $25 is donated to ABCD: After Breast Cancer Diagnosis, a Milwaukee-based organization whose mission is to provide free, personalized information and one-on-one support to people affected by breast cancer.

Tim Smith, general manager of InterContinental Milwaukee, then presented ABCD with a check for $12,675 – proceeds from the past year’s overnight stays in the Pink Rooms – which brings the total donated over the past five years to nearly $50,000.

Guests were also able to view photographer John Grant’s new exhibit, The Pink Balloon Project, at Gallerie M. Featuring patients and survivors of those affected by breast cancer, the exhibit was a beautiful source of inspiration for everyone who attended.

Milwaukee

A recent post about the San Francisco flag at Burrito Justice reminded me that Milwaukee has a flag that is much less than awesome… how much less than awesome? Well, it was designed by a Milwaukee Alderman in the 1950s, and back in 2001 it was deemed so bad that a competition was created to redesign it. With over 100 designs submitted, none were chosen and the old (ugly) flag remained.

To further add insult to injury, in 2004 a poll conducted by the North American Vexillological Association, the flag of Milwaukee was rated the fourth worst of all major cities in the United States. Embarrassing!

With a vibrant creative arts community in the Milwaukee Area (including branding firms like ourselves) perhaps the time is right to give it another shot and see if we can improve upon our flag. Having a well-designed flag we can be proud of might do wonders for the city.

We’re happy to announce the new addition of a great talent to the z2 team. This week we welcomed Carly Schroeder, who has more than six years experience in integrated marketing and advertising, as our new Senior Account Executive. Working directly with clients, Carly will manage our integrated marketing initiatives through all communication channels, including web, print, broadcast, social media and online applications.

Carly is a graduate of the University of Kansas and has worked with a variety of local and national clients such as Continuum Health Partners of New York, Banco Popular North America, University of Utah Health Care, Bethesda Lutheran Communities, GE Healthcare, Wonderbox Technologies, The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee and more.

Although she went to school in Kansas, Carly made her way back home to Milwaukee, where she grew up, after living in Kansas City and Chicago. Carly’s passion for creating and the psychology involved in researching and uncovering consumer motivations, insights and strategy is what drew her to a career in the marketing and advertising industry.

Carly has a sweet tooth for all things food and wine, especially when shared with her close friends and family. You can often find her out and about at Milwaukee’s best new (and classic) restaurants or at local farmer’s markets on the weekends. Carly likes to stay pretty active and enjoys biking, live music, photography and spending time outdoors at all of the festivals and events that happen in the area throughout the summer. Her guilty pleasures include Mad Men, The Real Housewives on Bravo and candy. And her biggest love of all is her “furbaby” Gracie, a six-year old Shih-Tzu Lhasa Apso.

If you want to learn a little more about Carly, feel free to follow her on Pinterest!
