We recently filmed a music video for Shealeigh. Her song “Be Kind” addresses the issue of bullying, and encourages kids to stand up to bullies. We filmed it at The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee, and I can’t confirm this, but we may be the first film crew to fly a drone inside the theater!

“Be Kind” appears on This Time Tomorrow, a compilation of songs from various artists supporting the This Time Tomorrow Foundation. (You can get it from Amazon.)

Shealeigh was great to work with, and it was awesome to see so many of her fans come out to support her and appear in the video. We’re hoping to have the editing done and maybe even throw a little premier party sometime in the beginning of December.

A Look Back: 2009

Comments Off

With more and more video production under our belt, 2009 saw the addition of a new piece of equipment, a RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera. While others were just starting to experiment with using DSLR cameras for video, we jumped into the high-end and started using the same equipment Hollywood productions were using for blockbuster films.

We also started our relationship with C. Thomas Howell (“Tommy”) who worked with us on a campaign for Assurant Health in 2009. We’ve continued working with Tommy on a number of things, including a photo shoot on the set of Southland, and just this year a music video for the This Time Tomorrow Foundation.

Oh, we also grew to 10 employees, which was a milestone not just due to it being double-digits, but also because we originally envisioned Z2 as a company that wouldn’t be more than 10 employees.

Whew! We’ve gone through 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, and made it all the way to 2009… That leaves just 4 more years until we’ve completed a look back at 10 years of Z2 History!

Stills from Video

If you’ve ever done a shoot where someone asked if you can just pull a few stills from the video, this is for you. (It’s a long video, but does a good job of explaining shutter speed as it relates to shooting video versus shooting stills.)

It can take more time (and require lugging more equipment around) but if you want really good stills as well as a good video, doing the two things separately will create better results.

See the post Why Pulling Stills From Video is a Zero-Sum Game for more.

It’s heeere… after quite the wait, Z2’s highly anticipated Nikon D800 is in the house (office). And it’s been worth the wait. The D800 has created a huge buzz in the video community and we’re proud to add it to our collection. The camera features the latest technology, including superb light sensitivity, high quality drop focus, and increased lens compatibility.

The D800 rounds out Z2’s full range of video capabilities, from on-the-go social media videos shot with an iPhone to the cinema quality capabilities of the RED ONE. Here’s a quick look at some videos we’ve shot with our various equipment.

iPhone. Behind the scenes footage from a photo shoot for Hilton Milwaukee. Shot and edited same day.

Panasonic HD. Holz Motors Gotta Dance Music Video.

RED ONE. Glue Dots DRTV.

Can’t wait to see what the D800 can do for our clients!

Wave Intros

We’ve been working with the Milwaukee Wave since 2005, and in that time we’ve both grown quite a bit, and while this weekend will see them headed to the MISL Championship for the second year in a row (and going for their 6th championship since they started) we decided to look back and some of the video work we’ve created for them over the years…

It’s pretty crazy to think we started doing the game intros with a MiniDV camera in our old photo studio in 2005, and now we’re doing the intros with a RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera in our photo studio (which is now over 3 times larger.)

Enjoy the video, and hey, while you’re at it, let’s root for a win tonight and on Sunday, to make our Milwaukee Wave the MISL Champions once again!
